Introducing: A Nordic Air Summer Safari
Summer Solitude: A Refined Nordic Coolcation
Introducing a Nordic air safari by PC-12 plane linking private islands, glacial camps and centuries-old retreats – for those who prefer their wilderness without an audience
May 2026; From a rugged 17th-century Finnish Coast Guard outpost to a solitary lighthouse island off the coast of Sweden, Scandinavia offers a growing collection of private sanctuaries designed for true disconnection. This summer, Cookson Adventures, has crafted a 19-day air safari by private PC-12 turboprop plane, for those seeking to reconnect with the wild and be immersed in some of the more remote corners of Sweden, Finland and Norway..
THE BEST OF SCANDINAVIA, WITHOUT THE WAIT
With a privately chartered turboprop, this air safari deftly links together a collection of six of the finest exclusive-use islands, historic coastal outposts and wilderness camps – each secured in its entirety for a private group of up to six guests with three nights at each property. A true go-anywhere aircraft, exploration-style flying is at its best in a PC-12, a smaller and more fuel-efficient option to a private jet, with the added flexibility of being able to land on the region’s shortest and most remote airstrips and runways saving considerable transfer time. It’s a plane that embraces the Nordic spirit of a slower, more meaningful way to travel, whilst also delivering something that road travel rarely does: a rare vantage point over some of Scandinavia’s most striking landscapes.
SWEDEN
Sweden opens the journey: a converted lighthouse residence on a private island five miles off the west coast, followed by a 19th-century farmhouse stay set within a working agricultural landscape. At these properties, life is stripped back to its raw beauty, and the pace slows to nature’s rhythm: private chefs craft seasonal farm-to-table feasts from foraged ingredients, swim alongside seals on a guided wildlife safari and even sleep under the stars on the island’s special outdoor bed set up.
FINLAND
On the Finnish emerald coast, a 10-acre heritage retreat offers entire island access and views over the Turku archipelago. A former customs island dating back to the 1630s, the lodge’s unique architectural design is characterised by carefully renovated coastguard quarters, historic watchtowers and original boathouses now redesigned for special celebrations and unique dinner setups. Guests can follow in the footsteps of the Finnish military with a ‘special forces’ bootcamp, uncover clues on an immersive scavenger hunt and make ceramics with local artisans.
NORWAY
Norway closes the trip with guests flying between Arctic Norway, the Lofoten Islands and the Norwegian fjords. The first stop is a secluded camp made up of geodesic tents at the foot of a glacier is one of the best locations to soak up the endless golden hour of the midnight sun. This camp set up serves up the ultimate backdrop to an outdoor adventure with cold fjord plunges, countryside hikes with huskies and the calming activity of ‘Arctic floating’ in the lake in full-body flotation suits.
Next, a former 19th-century trading post has been meticulously transformed into one of the world’s top private island retreats that’s only accessible by boat. A seafront wellness space with suspended sauna, beach lounge and hot tub deck overlooks Lofoten’s majestic mountain peaks, whilst an open plan kitchen plays host to visiting awarded chefs.
A short onward flight leads to an elegant country fifth generation family-owned country retreat that dates to the early 1800s. The family’s close ties with the area means local culture and seasonal experiences are at the heart of every stay. The choice includes SUP tours through the fjords, fly fishing for Atlantic salmon and private opera recitals.
This adventure is designed to complement the rhythms of the Nordic summer – the long evenings under the midnight sun, the close connection with nature and the awe-inspiring beauty of the surrounding landscapes. The itinerary is fluid by design so there’s flexibility on timing, routing and focus depending on the interests of each private group.
