July 2026: Cookson Adventures announces The Odyssey, a fully immersive journey that places guests at the heart of one of literature’s greatest stories, as Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster adaptation of Homer’s epic poem is released. This theatrical sailing voyage carries guests from a private clifftop Trojan Horse camp to Ithaca aboard a legendary superyacht, accompanied by actors, operatic performers, drone shows and a digitally powered prophet who knows the journey before it even begins.
Designed for a private group, this expedition will move through the Aegean with the structure and scale of a major production. Several high-craft hero moments will act as narrative anchors. Between them, atmospheric soundscaping, professional actors posing as crew and a recurring projected character onto the yacht’s sails — the blind prophet Tiresias — maintain the illusion. From the moment guests board their aircraft to the final homecoming dinner, they are inside the story.
“The Odyssey is one of the great adventure stories, and it is striking how closely it reflects the way we think about modern travel. Every epic journey is ultimately about who you become along the way. With this concept, we have taken that idea as far as possible. Guests will not simply watch the myth unfold; they will live it, make real decisions within it, and leave with something genuinely transformative.”
The Journey
This voyage opens with an immersive audio prologue delivered on their aircraft, so guests arrive in Greece already inside the story. On land, a custom designed camp, built to evoke the Trojan Horse, sets the scene on a clifftop above the sea with the sounds of battle in the distance. From there, the guest’s explorer yacht awaits offshore for them to escape too, and the journey to Ithaca begins.
Guests will plot their course home using ancient methods and traditional maps, guided by the ship’s crew. Subsequent days bring the seductive Lotus Eaters’ hedonistic beach party in a secluded cove, the hypnotic Siren’s Table dinner performed under the stars with operatic voices and a string accompaniment, and a night excursion to the ruins of an ancient temple, where the colossal Cyclops’s silent rising, 500-drone strong, rises over the crest of a hill.
As the voyage deepens, guests drift through a cave by kayak into a staged ‘Underworld’, where live performers and musicians surround them, and an apparition of Penelope calls them home. To curry favour with the gods, the guests will spend time on a meaningful local marine conservation project that could range from loggerhead turtle nesting to dolphin research.
The voyage closes on Ithaca. Guests row ashore, as Odysseus once did. A final homecoming dinner, hosted by Penelope herself, brings this epic journey to its conclusion.
The Oracle Tiresias
Be among the very first in the country’s history to re-introduce a locally extinct species, joining a team of top conservationists to help aid in the efforts to bring back the likes of lions and elusive wild dogs to the Congo basin. It’s a rare chance to witness up close and resource vital work that will leave a lasting impact on the country for years to come.
Every decision builds a portrait
Running in parallel with every experience is a bespoke digital companion connecting the voyage together. It presents a revealing map of the journey, where different locations trigger quests, dilemmas and challenges drawn from Homer’s world. Each decision builds a portrait of the explorer from their leadership, bravery, wit and loyalty. By the journey’s end, one member of the group will be deemed a worthy leader, and guests will be presented with a personalised journal: a complete account of the path they took, the choices they made and the person they became.
Expert Insights
Cookson Adventures will bring onboard experts on Homer’s Odyssey, such as Dr Antony Makrinos, a world leading Homer scholar and an Associate Professor of Classics at University College London. He would be available to share his extraordinary knowledge both onboard and at sites along the route, as well as hosting exclusive pre-and post-trip events, tailored round the client’s specific interests in Homer and classical mythology.
“Homer’s Odyssey is the founding text of Western literature, a journey that has captivated audiences for nearly three millennia and is set to reach an even wider audience with the forthcoming film adaptation by Christopher Nolan. Bringing it to life in the very landscapes where the myth unfolds is an extraordinary opportunity. This major production draws on some of my favourite parts from Homer’s Odyssey, and I look forward to helping Cookson’s guests experience the ancient world in a vivid and modern way.”
